Outcome
A new animated framework played before and after every screening across the summer, welcoming thousands of guests to one of London’s most iconic outdoor cinema events.
The Brief
Screen on the Canal is Everyman’s annual outdoor cinema partnership with King’s Cross - a large-scale summer event that attracts huge audiences and regular social traction. New event regulations in 2025 required updated intro and outro films to clearly communicate key information before and after each screening.
The challenge was to inform without interrupting the atmosphere.
The Idea
Working within the existing visual identity created in collaboration with Yinka Ilori, the animation extended the brand world into motion - translating its bold colour palette and graphic language into a warm, characterful on-screen experience.
The tone was key: relaxed but clear, playful yet confident. It needed to feel like a host welcoming you in - unmistakably Everyman.
The Work
I led the creative from concept to delivery, including: Narrative structure and pacing, storyboarding and visual direction, soundtrack selection, voiceover casting and production.
Two professional narrators recorded alternate versions of the intro and outro, allowing the films to rotate across screenings and keep the experience feeling fresh throughout the summer.
The Impact
The final films framed each screening with clarity and charm — setting expectations, guiding tens of thousands of guestsacross the summer, and reinforcing the joy of the event without ever feeling instructional. The animation became a seamless part of the Screen on the Canal experience, supporting a high-profile cultural event at significant scale.
